I Need Thee Every Hour, Lord Jesus!
The title in part, mirrors the name of a well known song written in 1872 by Annie Hawks. However, this article is not about the song per se, but about the Savior on Whom the song focuses on - the God we all so desperately need. I know that I need my Lord every second of every hour of every day - for all my days! Though, I must confess that I did not always have this knowledge. In grace and love, the Savior showed me this Truth one day, just as He has for millions of other believers throughout the ages. Psalms 42:1-2 Truly, the one that does not know of his or her need of the Lord's Presence and blessing in one's life, is in the most miserable and deplorable state that one could ever be in! Hence, this realization of one's great poverty and futility of existence without the Savior's Presence, is of inestimable worth. That is because, it can lead one to the gain of an incomparable Treasure, which is Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of Lords! Yes, we come humbly to the Cross, where our salvation was purchased at the Price of the Holy Blood of the Son of God, offered through the Eternal Spirit. Hebrews 9:14 It is the Presence of God in one's life makes that all the difference! This further revelation that God dwells in one's mortal body, makes one to bow low, in humble gratitude and worship before our Gracious Heavenly Father. Yes, He is not only near me, but He goes with me wherever I go, because He lives in me! Colossians 1:27 With a Friend so near to help, shall we not confess that, at times in our Christian experience, we have, perhaps, failed to avail ourselves of this Omnipotent Master of the universe - the Ruler of both the visible and invisible kingdoms? "O what peace we often forfeit? O what needless pain we bear?" (To borrow the line from another well known hymn, What a Friend We Have Jesus). Oh, I wish to know this Blessed Jesus as my very Peace, through and through, no matter what situation may come my way in this life. May you also confess dear friend, that you need the Lord moment by moment. Yes, may you also by faith in God's goodness and His revelation from the Word, take Him as your All in all for every circumstance in your life - even today, even right this instant! He is More than enough for us. Praise Him! Hallelujah! Ephesians 3:20, 21 Amen! Glory be to the Lord Alone forevermore! Psalms 142 I cried unto the Lord with my voice; with my voice unto the Lord did I make my supplication. I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble. When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me. I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul. I cried unto thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living. Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I. Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.
Psalms 42:1-2 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Colossians 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
Ephesians 3:20-21 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end.
